Build your experience

What makes Himachal Grand Circuit worth the journey

  • Shimla, Kufri, the Ridge and Mall Road
  • Manali, Solang Valley and seasonal snow-road access
  • Dharamshala, McLeod Ganj and Tibetan heritage
  • Dalhousie and Khajjiar landscapes
  • Wagah border ceremony, Golden Temple and Jallianwala Bagh

No fixed itinerary

Choose the version that fits you

Complete northern circuit

Follow the ten-day Shimla-to-Amritsar structure.

Himachal only

Remove Amritsar and use the time to slow down the hill journey.

Comfort-first

Add a night or remove one hill base to reduce consecutive long drives.

Fresh & less obvious

Look beyond the standard stops

  • Sissu or a carefully timed Atal Tunnel extension when roads and permits allow
  • A slower village or café experience around Dharamshala instead of only landmark hopping

Newer and lesser-known experiences can have seasonal, permit or operational changes. We confirm access and operating conditions before including these experiences in your final plan.

Plan with context

Festivals & dates to watch

Kullu Dussehra

October; exact dates follow the annual Dussehra calendar. · Dhalpur, Kullu

Week-long gathering centred on Lord Raghunath with hundreds of village deities.

Traveller impact: Road congestion, parking pressure and higher room demand across the Kullu valley.

EXPERIENCE IT / BOOK EARLY.

Winter / New Year demand

Late December–early January · Manali and major resort centres

Traveller impact: Hotel pressure, slower roads, weather disruption and parking congestion.

PLAN AROUND IT unless snow-season atmosphere is the point of the trip.

Monsoon road-risk period

Roughly July–September; varies by valley/year. · Hill roads across Himachal route

Traveller impact: Landslide risk, slower drives and itinerary fragility.

PLAN AROUND IT; do not describe as a blanket closure.

Dates can vary by year — reconfirm before booking.

Food, culture & meals with a view

McDonald's: major hill hubs such as Shimla/Manali have more chain/fast-food choice than remote circuit stops; never promise chains on every leg. Cheaper: - Himachali dhabas - thali - momos - paratha - rajma-chawal - local bakeries Budget meal: ₹120–300.

Tailor Trips guide

Travelling solo or on a shoestring?

HIMACHAL GRAND CIRCUIT on a shoestring

Cheap stay: Hostel dorms: ₹500–1,200 in Manali/Shimla/Dharamshala-type hubs; simple private rooms roughly ₹1,000–2,000 outside peak holiday dates.Connectivity pick: Normal India plan: - Jio/Airtel ₹349 / 28d / 2GB/day ≈ US$3.64.Cheapest transport: HRTC/local buses are the cheapest inter-town option.Fast-food reality: McDonald's: major hill hubs such as Shimla/Manali have more chain/fast-food choice than remote circuit stops; never promise chains on every leg.

Internet & data

Normal India plan: - Jio/Airtel ₹349 / 28d / 2GB/day ≈ US$3.64. For remote valleys, carry a second SIM if connectivity matters; BSNL can still be useful in pockets.

Food

McDonald's: major hill hubs such as Shimla/Manali have more chain/fast-food choice than remote circuit stops; never promise chains on every leg. Cheaper: - Himachali dhabas - thali - momos - paratha - rajma-chawal - local bakeries Budget meal: ₹120–300.

Transport

HRTC/local buses are the cheapest inter-town option. Shimla official local buses run frequently and cover major city points. Uber-style apps are not a reliable circuit solution. No single tourist pass covers the Himachal circuit. Private car is worth paying for when: - changing valleys with luggage; - doing early/late scenic stops; - public timetable would lose a day.

Shopping

1. Lakkar Bazaar, Shimla — woodcraft; compare quality. 2. Lower Bazaar, Shimla — cheaper everyday shopping than Mall Road. 3. Manali Tibetan Market — woollens/souvenirs. 4. Old Manali local shops — café-town retail, not necessarily cheapest. 5. Kullu shawl/weaving outlets/co-ops — better for regional textiles.

Figures are indicative as of September 2026. Reconfirm seasonal prices, access and transport before travel.
